Nonlinear metasurfaces for power-dependent mantle cloaking devices

Here, we propose the design of a nonlinear microwave metasurface with the aim to obtain mantle cloaking devices exhibiting a power-dependent behavior. For this purpose, we load a properly patterned metallic surface with pin diodes and use it as a conformal cloak of a metallic rod. By properly modeling the nonlinear behavior of the diodes into a full-wave numerical simulator, we demonstrate that the scattering by the rod can be controlled by acting on the power level of the incident electromagnetic field. This result paves the way to the use of nonlinearities into microwave mantle cloaking devices, further expanding their application fields in realistic scenarios.
