A broadband, bessel beam radiator

In this paper, a broadband Bessel beam launcher is presented, capable of radiating short, localized pulses into free space. The antenna/launcher is formed by flaring a coaxial cable that is partially filled with a dielectric. The design exhibits a low reflection coefficient and high radiation efficiency from 15 to 50 GHz. The fields in the antenna's radiative near-field remain relatively constant within this bandwidth. As a result, short pulses maintain their field profile while propagating within this region. Such a device could find use in medical or military applications.
