Gain-bandwidth enhancement of 60 GHz DRA using lens technique

In this paper, a lens technique was proposed to enhance antenna's gain and bandwidth to support 60GHz ISM band communication. This technique is especially useful for indoor millimeter-wave communication known to have numerous challenges. In the proposed antenna structure, a loaded dielectric hemisphere Lens was used to focalize electromagnetic energy and improve the gain. The proposed design takes advantage of a modified micro-strip to slot transition to feed a dielectric resonator antenna (or DRA) at the V-band. Simulation performance analysis shows a very large bandwidth covering 9.5 GHz and a very high gain up to 19.4 dBi.
