Charge transport in thin biological films grown by the Langmuir-Blodgett technique

The present work has shown that LB films of biological molecules behave in a similar manner to the fatty acids. It has been shown that water in the films may be important in determining their properties. Further work carried out by us on the d.c. conductivity of the films has shown this to be an activated process. After vacuum pumping and application of high fields this process disappears, revealing the presence of a weakly temperature-dependent process which is due to an electron tunnelling process.
