Chemical changes in polyethylene by high energy ions

Corona consists of a cloud of ions and electrons. The energies of these ions and electrons range from those approximating bond energies of the order of 2.2 to 4.3 eV for some corona in small voids to energies orders of magnitude greater than bond energies for some plasmas. When corona causes insulation erosion, the energies of some of the ions and electrons impinging on the insulating material are certainly greater than bond energies.
