Spin seebeck and spin-dependent seebeck effect in ferromagnetic thin films

Spin caloritronics, aiming to recycle exponentially growing wasted thermal energy in nowadays nanoelectronics, has gradually evolved as a main branch of spintronics. Among different thermo-magneto-transport phenomena, spin Seebeck effect and spin dependent Seebeck effect are most attractive due to their capabilities to generate pure spin current and finally to generate electric current via thermal gradient. In this talk, we will first ambiguously show that spin Seebeck effect can not only be observed in heavy metals but can also be observable in normal ferromagnetic metals such as Permalloy. Second spin-dependent Seebeck effect can be conveniently detected in ferromagnetic thin films via anomalous Nemst effect. Finally, we will give a thorough comparison in aspects of origins, detection methods and possible applications between spin Seebeck effect and spin dependent Seebeck effect in ferromagnetic thin films.
