Design of a compact dual-element microstrip antenna array with reduced mutual coupling

In this paper, a compact microstrip antenna array with resonant frequency of 3.5 GHz is presented. The mutual coupling between array elements can be reduced by inserting a ‘square wave’ shaped microstrip resonator between the radiating microstrip antennas. The simulated results show that the mutual coupling between array elements has a reduction of about 10 dB at the operating frequency. Details of the antenna design and results are presented and discussed.
