G.fast achievable bit rate performance based on FEXT stochastic and 99% worst case model

The new project gigabyte fast access to customer terminal (G.fast) has been initiated within ITU Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T) SG15 in February 2011. This new copper access technology is expected to provide aggregate (upstream and downstream) data rates up to 1 Gbps over distances up to 250 meter. This paper discusses the concept of G.fast channel modeling based on stochastic far end crosstalk (FEXT) model against 99% worst case model. The motivation to study these two type of model is for analyze accurate FEXT and speed prediction. The cable insertion loss and FEXT is measured for a 50-pairs 100 meter cable with 0.5mm cable gauge. The transmitter simulation is based on the G.fast International Telecommunication Union (ITU) specification. The bit rate performance is simulated for distance up to 250 meter. The results of the measurement and simulation show a better correlation between FEXT and bit rate. The results can be used as a base for future work on G.fast channel modelling emphasizes on FEXT.
