Adaptive Reference Power algorithm for power sharing between inverters under varying source condition

Standalone Microgrid (MG) system is the prime research area for the researchers since Distributed Energy Resources (DER) are mostly located away from the grid. Operating MG under standalone condition need to have a reliable power sharing between the two DER. Conventional droop technique provides this reliability without any communication among the DER but has limitations of uneven power sharing and frequency deviation during varying source condition. It also affects the overall power delivery of MG. This paper focuses on power sharing and frequency deviation issues of droop controller technique during intermittent source condition. Adaptive Reference Power (ARP) algorithm is proposed to change the reference power setting P_ri to improve the power sharing and frequency deviation during continuous source varying condition. The algorithm was found to be very effective if used along with Adaptive Droop Coefficient (ADC) algorithm. The effectiveness of algorithm is investigated with the help of four case studies and verified by MATLAB simulations.
