Fuzzy set theory applications for FACTS devices in grid connected renewable power systems

Fuzzy set theory applications have received increasing attention in various areas of power systems such as operation, planning, and control. Fuzzy logic controllers are allowing power systems for wider operating conditions under uncertainties. Control algorithms based on fuzzy logic have been implemented in many processes. The application of such control techniques has been motivated of their improved robustness over the conventional linear control algorithms and their simplified control design and implementation for difficult system models. In this paper fuzzy controllers are designed for FACTS devices for improvement of power quality of grid connected renewable energy systems. Renewable energy sources are expected to be a promising alternative energy source, can bring new challenges when connected to the power grid. This paper gives the report on two forms of renewable energy wind and solar energy grid connected systems power quality improvement by implementing fuzzy logic controllers based FACTs controller. Fuzzy logic controller design and simulation studies are done by using MATLAB Simulink Software. Comparison studies have also been performed between the conventional PID controller and the fuzzy logic controller based renewable energy source connected custom power devices for power quality improvement.
