Finite element modeling in therapeutic and diagnostic bioelectromagnetics applications

Computational methods for therapeutic and diagnostic bioelectromagnetics applications have developed rapidly over the last ten years. The reasons for this evolution are clear: bioelectromagnetic devices/systems typically have large parameter spaces which need to be explored and optimized. Further, in many instances information about detailed field distributions inside the body is needed but measurements of the same are not practical or even feasible. This paper briefly reviews the major computational issues facing bioelectromagnetic simulations on finite elements and describes two application areas in the therapeutic and diagnostic cancer arena.
