Dual resonant stacked Shivling shaped microstrip patch antenna for GSM, IMT, WLAN, Bluetooth and WiMAX applications

In this paper, a stacked Shivling shaped micro strip patch antenna suitable for Bluetooth, GSM, IMT, WLAN and WiMAX applications has been proposed. The proposed antenna design employs two substrates of Teflon material having dielectric constant 2.1 and 4.5 mm and 1.5 mm thickness. The substrate of thickness 1.5 mm has been stacked over 4.5 mm thick substrate. The antenna design has Shivling shaped radiating patch and a micro strip feed line on the upper surface of 4.5 mm thick substrate and a defected ground plane on the lower surface. The radiating patch, microstrip feed line and a defected ground surface are of copper material having thickness of 0.05 mm. The stacked 1.5 mm thick substrate is just a dielectric material and there is copper on its upper and lower surface. The analysis of proposed Shivling shaped microstrip patch antenna design has been carried out in terms of return loss, impedance bandwidth, gain, directivity, VSWR and antenna impedance. It has been observed that the antenna has impedance bandwidth of 1.636GHz having resonant frequency at 1.92GHz and 2.70GHz with return loss of -34.665dB and -31.563dB, respectively. The antenna has been designed using CST Microwave Studio 2014. The proposed antenna has been fabricated and tested using E5071C network analyzer and anechoic chamber. It has been observed that the simulated results closely match with the experimental results.
