Adiabatic Threshold Inverter Quantizer for a 3-bit Flash ADC

A novel Threshold Inverter Quantizer (TIQ) is suggested in the work to implement a 3-bit, 1.2V Flash Analog to Digital Converter (ADC). Two Phase Adiabatic Static CMOS Logic (2PASCL) is used for designing of Threshold Inverter Quantizer (TIQ) Comparator. Suggested work is carried out with SMIC 65nm Technology and simulated on Empyrean EDA tool. There is a need of different reference voltage for operation of comparator and this is achieved by systematically sizing the transistors of the TIQ comparators. The total power dissipation for the proposed ADC simulated at 1.2V Vdd and for 1fF capacitive load at 1.2 Hz, 1 KHz, 1 MHz input frequency is observed as 1.69 μW, 1.79 μW, 2.26 μW respectively; which is about 89% lesser than that of conventional CMOS TIQ based Flash ADC design.
