Optical amplitude gratings with tunable diffraction efficiency

We present a new kind of electro-mechanical optical grating with highly tunable diffraction efficiency. An efficient overlapping effect allows us to use an integrated direct piezo actuation. We demonstrate the principle with a simulation and a prototype with which we achieve tuning capabilities of 97% in the 1^st diffraction order.
