RAR: Replication adaptive routing in oceanic wireless networks

Due to the intermittent connectivity of oceanic wireless communication, traditional connection-oriented TCP/IP protocols have to stop transmission because of connection interruption. And due to the heterogeneity of oceanic wireless networks, existing protocols cannot directly apply to oceanic wireless networks. Therefore, we designed a Replication Adaptive Routing (RAR) protocol for oceanic wireless networks, considering the heterogeneity and characteristics of oceanic wireless communication. To evaluate the performance of RAR, we implement RAR on a testbed consisting of over 20 wireless nodes. The experimental results have shown that RAR effectively improves data transmission rate and greatly reduce transmission delay, compared with existing TCP/IP protocols.
