Three dimensional DCT similar butterfly algorithm and its pipeline architectures

In traditional three-dimensional (3D) discrete cosine transform (DCT) algorithm, three dimensions are processed separately. In order to realize 3D global DCT and construct the unity architectures of blocks with different sizes, we propose 3D DCT similar butterfly algorithm and its unit pipeline architectures. Firstly, we present 3D DCT pipeline algorithm based on the theory of 1D DCT and tensor product operation. Secondly, we give the 3D DCT similar butterfly architectures. Finally, we propose unit pipeline architectures and the corresponding whole pipeline architecture of 3D DCT. The experimental results indicate that we only require half number of add operation and approximately 30% multiplication operations comparing to conventional 3D DCT algorithm. And the processing time to transform one block using our method takes less than 15% of the time using traditional methods.
