Application of multiband hysteresis modulation in field oriented control based IPMSM drive fed by asymetrical multilevel cascaded H-Bridge inverter

Recently, Inner permanent magnet synchronous Machines are widely used in several applications such as hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), starters/alternators, power steering, and air conditioning motors. This paper presents multiband hysteresis modulation to Field Oriented Controlled (FOC) IPMSM fed by a 9-level asymmetrical Cascaded Half Bridge (CHB) inverter. For this reason, hysteresis controllers have 9-band current error. The CHB is more attractive choice due to its modular structure and higher number of output voltage level for the same number of semiconductors in comparison with symmetrical CHB. The results show several advantages of this method such as high accuracy, fast dynamic response, insensitivity to parameter variations and simple implementation.
