Simple input impedance converter model to design regulators for dc-distributed system

Current trends in power distribution systems are focused on distributed architectures instead of centralized approach. Distributed architectures are more complex since interactions between converters can cause stability problems. To analyze these interactions, it is needed to know the behavior of converter impedances. Moreover, distributed power systems are typically comprised of subsystems made up by a variety of manufacturers, which do not provide the data required to parameterize a model due to reasons of confidentiality. Complex measurements and identification techniques are required to obtain a model of the converter. In this paper, a simple model is proposed to describe accurately the input impedance of a Dc-to-Dc converter. The model has been validated with different values of the input capacitor filter commonly include to reduce the input current ripple. In addition, the extension of the applicability of the model has been validated to different power topologies and control strategies. The results show that this simple model can be used to describe accurately the input impedance of Dc-to-Dc converters with capacitive input filters. Hence, the design of the converter regulators in Dc-distributed systems can be performed with low cost instrumentation and more simple analytical derivations.
