Remote consulting for product EMC compliance by means of virtual workspace and cloud computing

Product EMC compliance requires EMC knowledge of EMC and engineering experience, a consulting service provided by an experienced EMC expert will be helpful for most engineers in industry. However, the Product EMC compliance is a measurement dependent processing and a consulting cannot be offered without making measurement and investigation on product onsite, so that even nowadays the EMC compliance consulting service on Internet is still not attainable. This paper proposes an innovative method of building a virtual workspace in Cloud and evaluating product's EMC status by Cloud Computing, to make the remote consulting service for product EMC possible. The principle of the proposed methodology includes, engineers in product manufactory measure EUT (Equipment Under Test) at workshop by an oscilloscope, then upload the measurement results with an image of EUT to Cloud to build a virtual EUT at virtual workspace, consulting expert may access the Cloud remotely and “measure” the virtual EUT at virtual workspace by means of Cloud Computing to obtain EUT's EMC status, then guide the engineer to modify the product until EMC compliance is realized. The proposed method is presented with two industry application examples to show that the proposed method may help product manufactory to speed up product EMC compliance and reduce the appliance cost, and it introduces an effective and low cost way of product EMC pre-compliance at manufacturer's workshop.
