Level 2 Models Of A Distributed Information System Simulator

Progress has been made in the development of a distributed information system simulator (DISS). While several DISS component models have been developed, two related models -- an analytical model and a simulation model -- are presented herein for illustration purposes and to highlight their worth, especially in comparison with an available but IBM proprietary planning tool, acronymed Snapshot. Indeed, the comparison highlights some very interesting aspects of the Snapshot results, including some of its shortcomings. The models focus on Level 2 of a 4-level DISS framework; that is, they model the operation and use of resources within a single DISS node or central processing unit.
