The race record: Using statistical analysis and content analysis to explore the cultural implications of Taiwan Aborigines' music cover design

Taiwan's Aborigines constitute near 2% of Taiwanese population. They have lived in Taiwan for more than 8,000 years, and much longer than the Han immigrants, who are the major demographic compositions. As the research shows that the 85% of Taiwan's Han ethnic contain Aborigines' DNA. Taiwan's Aborigines' ethnics are one of the most important minorities in Taiwan. Generally speaking, Taiwan's Aborigine people are having excellent achievements in various cultural domains. However, due to the social repression, the images of Aborigines were managed mostly by the mainstream culture of the Han ethnic. As the ideology of Orientalism, the face of the Aboriginal culture often illustrates the way how the mainstream culture approaches it. This also affected the music industry where the Aborigines are relatively active for several decades, and for the founding of Taiwan's music industry. This research starts with understanding the cover design of the album; there is much evident, phenomenon and elements indicated to make customers understand what the specialists, and what are the Aboriginal cultures in the albums. Most of the early cover designs even were carried out without singers' participation. This could be an important historical evidence for doing further research in Taiwanese ethnic groups. However, the related researches and records are limited. In this study, the researchers first carried out a sampling method to get the analysis sample of album covers. Secondly, the album covers will be analysed and deconstruct meaningful elements. The results revealed that several elements were used in several different conditions and can be influenced by political as well as the social atmosphere.
