Predictable wind power via distributed control of wind generators with integrated storage

In this paper we study a leader-follower consensus protocol and establish stability properties of its equilibrium point. Specifically, by employing singular perturbation and Lyapunov theories, we first establish asymptotic stability of the consensus protocol without time-delays. Then, we extend this result and establish time-delay-independent asymptotic stability. Finally, using the proposed protocol we develop a control methodology that can be adopted by a group of state-of-the-art (SoA) wind Double-Fed Induction Generators (DFIGs) with integrated storage to accomplish a group objective. The objective is that the WGs self-organize and control their storage devices in an equal sharing fashion such that the wind farm (WF) generates predictable power output, i.e its total power output matches a given reference. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our method via simulations on the IEEE 24-bus Reliability Test System (RTS).
