Image segmentation based thresholding technique: Application to DNA sequence scalograms

Image segmentation is a key step in the image analysis and understanding. The images on which we are focusing are DNA sequence scalograms. DNA is formed of a linear chain composed of a sequence of ATCG. This chain is converted by using the PNUC coding technique followed by a wavelet analysis to scalograms. The scalograms enhanced regular patterns representing the periodicities existing in the C. Elegans organism. These particular patterns characterize an area of biological interest. The segmentation is the most used method to extract regular patterns. In this paper, we will investigate the Image Segmentation by using the Thresholding Technique. This method allows focusing on the repeating patterns related to particular DNA regions especially in repetitive sequences. The final purpose consists in associating elementary shapes with the scalogram image to particular DNA base succession.
