Necessity of more detailed definition of electrical fast transient/burst and surge waveforms

One electrical fast transient/burst (EFT) test case and one surge test case are demonstrated to show that EFT generators and surge generators that meet the requirements of current standards may lead to unreasonable and irreproducible test results. Analyses on this situation reveal that definition of EFT and surge waveforms is too rough. So a conclusion drawn in this paper is that more detailed definition of EFT and surge waveforms are in need and some suggestions on how to define EFT and surge waveforms are also offered in this paper.
