The measurement method of runway frictional properties correlated with the braking performance of aircraft

In this paper an airstrip friction coefficient measuring method developing for extreme weather conditions and correlation between the measured results and braking characteristics of real aircrafts are presented. The conceptual model of towed friction coefficient tester that realizes brand new friction coefficient measuring method based upon the controllable measuring wheel braking for imitation of anti-lock braking modes that are close to the real braking modes of the aircrafts while landing. The computer models of friction coefficient measuring procedure was designed and series of tests was carried out on correlation of the friction coefficient measuring results imitating the anti-lock braking system modes on the measuring wheel varying the shape, intensity and frequency of braking cycles and slipping values and anti-lock braking modes.
