Self-configurable intelligent power adapter to suit wide range of low power gadget/appliances

Across the world, there is growing demand for electronic gadgets in applications such as communication, health care, personal care, entertainment etc. All of these low power portable gadgets come with customized wall adapter to suit their voltage and current requirements. Also, these adapters are differnet from each other in connecter interface perspective leading to inconvenience for consumers to maintain and use correct adapter for particular gadget. In addition, after the useful life of gadget is over, the adapters become useless, leading to electronic waste. In this paper, we propose a solution to replace existing wall adapters by intelligent self-configurable adapter. Gadget and self-configurable adapter communicates with each other and output of the adapter is configured to suit voltage and current requirement of the gadget. The concept has been validated through an experimental prototype and test results are presented.
