Space vector model of a five-phase current source inverter

Multiphase motor drive is considered for numerous industrial applications. Most of the available literature on multiphase motor drive is fed using voltage source inverters. This paper proposes five-phase current source inverter fed five-phase motor drives. Current source is known to offer inherent short circuit protection and lower dv/dt and hence reduced stress on switches. Space vector model is developed for a five-phase current source inverter. The developed space vector model shows 180 current space vectors of 14 different lengths spanned over 360 degrees. These vectors are then transformed into two orthogonal planes namely d1-q1 and d3-q3. The space vector model then give insight into the implementation of space vector modulation which is a challenging area of research. Analytical results are supported by simulation results.
