A novel TWDM architecture with efficient power saving

To support the incremental bandwidth demand there is need of developing an architecture which is flexible enough to provide wide range of bandwidth. The power consumption of optical access network is low as compared to other technologies. Still it is very important to further reduce the power consumption of optical access network to prevent the global warming. This paper makes the use of next generation passive optical network (NG-PON) and proposed an architecture whose functionality supports pay-as-you-grow, adaptive link rate, resilience and power saving at optical line terminal (OLT). The described architecture is also compatible with the legacy PON. The time and wavelength division multiplexing (TWDM) architecture supporting 40-Gigabits passive optical network (PON) for business, residential, mobile backhaul and various other applications have been considered.
