Inter turn fault diagnosis of three phase induction motor using SST and KNN

In this paper, an on line fault diagnosis of stator inter turn fault of 3-Φ induction motor is presented. The fault diagnosis technique uses only time synchronized samples of three phase stator current signals, from which the positive and negative sequence components are calculated by Sample Shifting technique (SST). A KNN based fault detection algorithm is made in MATLAB to diagnosis the inter turn fault and faulty phase. The main objective of this work is to establish a system capable of detecting the stator condition of Induction motor by continuous monitoring of stator current. The proposed work is simulated by modeling a three phase induction motor model with inter turn fault condition in MATLAB. To check the accuracy of algorithm, this method is verified experimentally on a 0.5 HP, 415 V, 3-Φ Induction motor.
