Development and analysis of a charging algorithm for electric vehicle fleets extending battery lifetime

The economic viability of the incorporation of electric vehicles (EVs) into a vehicle fleet strongly depends on the lifetime of the EVs. In this paper a model including a nonlinear optimization algorithm is used to optimize the charging process of an EV fleet in terms of costs. The model takes the arising costs due to the calendaric ageing of the traction batteries and the electricity costs during the charge process into account. For this study parameters for a high energy lithium-ion automotive cell were included into the model to account for the calendaric ageing of the battery cell. The interior point algorithm evaluates the optimal solution to charge every single vehicle to the necessary capacity for the desired operation and obeys the load restriction at the charging location. The defined scenario is the operation of twentytwo EVs charged at a central charging location.
