A bidirectional dual-bridge LCL-type series resonant converter controlled with modified gating scheme

A bidirectional LCL-type series resonant converter with capacitive output filter is proposed for the application of capacitor semi-active hybrid energy storage system. The primary side of the converter is controlled using the modified (complementary) gating scheme; while the secondary side of the converter is controlled using the normal gating that is phase shifted with respect to the primary side. The direction of the power flow is determined by the polarity of the phase shift between the primary side and the secondary side of the converter. Steady state analysis of the converter using Fourier series approach is presented. Based on the analysis, a design example with detailed procedures is provided. Next following the design parameters obtained in the design example, a converter is simulated using PSIM simulation software. Finally, experimental results of the designed converter are provided to confirm the theoretical calculations.
