Direct power control based on renewable energy access for VSC-HVDC system

With the progress of voltage source converter (VSC) technology, VSC-HVDC system is becoming a promising solution to renewable energy access. To address the problem of power control when renewable energy parallels in the power grid through VSC-HVDC, a direct power control method is proposed for VSC-HVDC system. First, the architecture of VSC-HVDC system is introduced. Then a direct power control method is presented to meet the characteristics of renewable energy (i.e. randomness, volatility and uncontrollability). Moreover, the operational characteristics of the HVDC system under different conditions were analyzed by numerical simulation based on PSIM. Finally, a 10kw VSC-HVDC prototype system was developed, and the experimental results validate the effectiveness of the proposed power control method.
