Two direct torque and power control methods for back-to-back power converter PMSG wind turbine systems

Wind turbine systems (WTSs) with PMSG and back-to-back power converter are a viable solution for on- and off-shore application. This work presents both a space vector modulator (SVM) based and a switching table based direct torque and power control (DTC-DPC) method for such WTSs. Theory and controller design for both methods are described. Both methods are then implemented on a fully FPGA-based real-time platform to illustrate their control performances on a laboratory prototype experimentally. The SVM-based DTC-DPC method shows better current (torque) and power control performances than the conventional switching-table based DTC-DPC method.
