Concept and design of a special purpose permanent magnet synchronous motor

This paper deals with design of a permanent magnet synchronous motor for an electric kart. For the purpose of maximal mass savings the motor is designed as a high-speed machine, whose torque will be transferred to the wheels by a belt. According to the placement of the machine in the kart a suitable cooling method is proposed. The paper presents its electromagnetic, thermal and cooling design with results obtained using applicable numeric methods.
