A novel flower pollination algorithm for congestion management in electricity market

Under deregulated environment, transmission congestion problem has evolved as a serious threat to power system security and reliability and may also lead to unanticipated hike in electricity pricing. This paper proposes flower pollination algorithm (FPA) for congestion management (CM) problem of deregulated electricity market. Nature-inspired FPA is based on the characteristics of pollination process of flowering plants. The aim of employing FPA is to effectively relieve congestion in the transmission line by means of rescheduling of real power output of the generators. Various key security constraints like line transfer limit and load bus voltages have been considered while executing the CM problem. The performance of FPA has been tested on modified IEEE 30-bus and modified IEEE 57-bus power systems and the result obtained are compared to those offered by PSO, SA and RSM methods reported in the recent literature.
