PSR injection-line upgrade

We describe the new injection line to be implemented for the Los Alamos Proton Storage Ring (PSR) in the change from a two-step injection process to direct H/sup -/ injection. While obeying all geometrical constraints imposed by the existing structures, the new line has properties not found in the present injection line. In particular, it features decoupled transverse phase spaces downstream of the skew bend and a high degree of tunability of the beam at the injection foil. A comprehensive set of error studies has dictated the imposed component tolerances and has indicated the expected performance of the system.
