STBC-OFDM communication systems with sub-sampling support

An STBC-OFDM (Space-Time Block Code - Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) communication system architecture is presented in this paper in which the ADC (Analog/Digital Converter) on the receiver side can operate in lower sampling rate (sub-sampling mode) up to % of the time. In the sub-sampling mode, the ADC and the FFT/IFFT (Fast Fourier Transform - Inverse FFT) require less power and memory and operate faster. The data sparseness and the predictability of parity bit patterns that are generated by sparse data are exploited by some well-known Fourier Transform properties. The efficiency of the proposed system is demonstrated by simulation results based on an STBC-OFDM environment with 2 or 4 transmit antennas, 1024-pt FFT and 16-QAM modulation. An image reconstruction example is also used to visualize the effect of the proposed sub-sampling method.
