Peer selection algorithm in flying ad hoc networks

In the paper we improve QoS (Quality of Service) in the swarm of micro UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) connected by 802.11n standard and AODV routing protocol using peer selection algorithm that is implemented at the application layer of OSI model. We compare contention-based, greedy and predictive approaches to peer selection in FANET based on Packet Delivery Ratio (PDR) in source-destination transmission through the swarm of micro UAVs. We use selective-repeat ARQ (Automatic Repeat Request) at the application layer to improve PDR metric. In the article swarms of 10, 15 and 20 nodes were considered. Gauss-Markov Mobility Model is used to simulate the UAV behavior in a swarm. Results show that using predictive approach to peer selection in the considered mobile scenario grants higher PDR.
