Error compensation strategy for parallel error diffusion

Parallelizing error diffusion is a difficult task because of its inherently serial character in the original form. In this paper, we describe an error compensation strategy for parallel error diffusion. In our method, original image is split into independent blocks. In order to compensate for the missing errors around the boundary of blocks, the accumulated error of block's boundary pixels is simulated and a post-processing is also employed to compensate the boundary pixels. This parallel method can be applied on the traditional error diffusion algorithm to achieve high quality halftone image.
