Study on Head Impact Injury Evaluation Index of Vehicle Interior Fittings

Peak deceleration, deceleration cumulates for 3ms, HIC15 and HIC36 are widely accepted as the head injury evaluation index by many regulations. In this paper, the relation of Peak deceleration, deceleration cumulates for 3ms, HIC15 and HIC36 will be analyzed and application of these evaluation indexes in safety standards will be discussed.This study is carried out by the analysis of head impact test results to the steering mechanism, dashboard, seat back and armrest. In order to calculate HIC, engineering calculation method is developed by using the complex trapezoid formula.The correlation coefficients is up to 0.840_~0.941 which indicate that HIC have significant correlation with peak deceleration and deceleration cumulates for 3ms. However, distribution of HIC to a_max is more divergence than HIC to a_3ms. Model, parameters estimation and regression curves is got according to quadric regression.When the peak deceleration does not exceed 120g, deceleration cumulates for 3ms has strong correlation with HIC, both of them can be used to describe occupant's head injury independently;The current limit of the deceleration cumulates for 3ms is more severe in the current standards;There is no limit to the peak deceleration in the dashboard and seat impact standards, which may increase the risk of head injury.
