Multi-band multi-antenna chirp channel sounder for frequencies above 6 GHz

A number of frequency bands above 6 GHz have been identified for future 5G networks by both regulators and service providers. The frequency ranges from 10 GHz to 90 GHz offer different availability of contiguous spectrum. To enable the characterization of several of these possible bands a multiband channel sounder is required. This paper presents the architecture of a multiple band channel sounder designed to cover a number of these bands with multiple transmit and multiple receive configurations to enable Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) measurements such as dual polarization measurements and capacity enhancement. The sounder's performance is presented from back to back measurements and example of indoor channel measurements. Future measurement scenarios are outlined for point to point and point to area applications.
