Mobile satellite propagation channels for Ku and Ka band

The design and assessment of air interfaces for modern Land Mobile satellite systems between 1 and 20 GHz require the use of reference generative propagation channel models. Among possible generative modeling approaches, the empirical stochastic method has been widely used in the past two decades for its simplicity, reduced number of input parameters and efficiency in terms of computation time. Recently, the enhanced 2-state MIMO model has been developed in order to cover the band between 1 and 5 GHz. This model has been developed and validated thanks to experimental datasets collected at 2 and 4 GHz in different environments and for various elevation angles. This paper aims at presenting the upgraded enhanced 2-state channel model developed and tested thanks to datasets collected at 11.7GHz and 17.6 GHz. This model covers now the band between 1 GHz and 20 GHz and has been adopted in a new version of ITU-R Rec. P.681.
