A Flexible Distance Education Delivery Model: Design and Implementation at King Faisal University

The new technologies in Information and communication open a new generation for distance education delivery. This evolution in today's technologies acts as a major contributor for knowledge transformation and introduces sophisticated delivery tools for distance education. King Faisal University (KFU) started its distance education programs in 2009 using a flexible model for learning and teaching process. Different types of technologies that provide synchronous and asynchronous interaction with resources integrated together in a solid environment for learning and teaching. KFU model consists of material and educational resources delivery component, students' services component, management component, students reporting and tracking component, assessment, decision making and Quality assurance (QA) reports component. The aim of this paper is to share the flexible model of distance education delivery adopted by KFU in Saudi Arabia that attracts 150 thousands students around the kingdom and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries within 6 years.
