Building Context-Aware Recommendation Systems: A Software Engineering Point of View

Most publications of Context-Aware Recommender Systems (CARS) do not follow a Software Engineering process while building their systems, rather they focus on proposing and testing algorithms. We believe that CARS can be built following a structured development process, therefore this paper reviews Context-Aware Recommender System literature, identify the performed activities, and map such activities to the ISO/IEC 29110 Software Implementation activities. The results shows that even when no publication follows all the activities of the 29110 standard, all together, the publications cover most of the proposed activities of the ISO/IEC 29110 standard.
