Development of a residential size electricity producing condensing furnace

The authors have developed a furnace that combines the fuel-saving technique of cogeneration and the fuel saving technique of a condensing furnace in a system that is fundamentally simpler than existing furnaces and has the potential of replacing virtually every existing furnace in a highly fuel-efficient and cost-effective manner. The realization of these benefits will require the solution to difficult, but solvable, problems. The system has been recommended by the National Bureau of Standards and awarded a grant by the United States Department of Energy. The authors describe their work in the design and testing of development prototypes, as well as some of the successes and remaining problems to be solved.<>
