Ultra-compact plasmonic polarization splitter based on dual-core D-shaped PCF

A novel design of D-shaped photonic crystal fiber polarization splitter based on surface plasmon resonance is presented. The polarization splitter involves a gold nanowire and depositing of a gold film along with side-polishing of PCF. The numerical results show an ultracompact device length as short as 84 μm with extinction ratios of −21.5 dB and −41 dB and insertion losses of −0.57 dB and −0.3 dB for the x- and y-polarized modes, respectively, at wavelength of 1.55 μm.
