Influence of system setting on the myocardial integrated backscatter measurement

The cyclic variation of ultrasonic integrated backscatter (IB) of myocardium is expect to discriminate normal from ischemic myocardium. It has the potential to became a noninvasive method of the clinical diagnosis of myocardial ischemia. To investigate the feasibility of such a technique, and to make better use of the technique by investigating some system parameter on the IB measurement, a clinical IB detection and estimation system is established in the authors' laboratory. Using this system, the IB data were collected from six male volunteers. Based on the clinical data obtained, the effects of sampling window position, signal sampling-rate and algorithm parameter setting on IB value are studied. These results provide a guide line for the design of the instrumentation for IB detection.
