Accuracy and resolution bounds for adaptive sensor array processing

Accuracy and resolution bounds for adaptive sensor array processing problems are derived using Cramer-Rao analysis. These bounds are used to establish a fundamental limit on the resolution achievable by a given aperture. The resolution bounds of a uniform linear array (ULA) and two separated and collinear ULAs are derived. These resolution bounds are compared to those achieved in a simulation and previously published bounds for specific superresolution algorithms. The potential improvement in resolution obtained by separating two ULAs each with a fixed aperture B wavelengths by M wavelengths (assumed large) is shown to be approximately /spl radic/(M/B).
