A new 12/11-pole dual three-phase flux-switching permanent magnet machine

A new dual 3-phase flux-switching permanent magnet (FSPM) machine having 12/11-stator/rotor-pole is proposed and analyzed in this paper. Compared with the conventional 12/11-pole 3-phase FSPM machine, it is analytically deduced that the proposed dual 3-phase machine has better torque characteristics, i.e. higher torque density due to larger distribution factor and smaller torque ripple due to 30 electrical degrees' phase shift between the two sets of 3-phase windings. Finite-element (FE) results show that the dual 3-phase machine has 12.57% higher torque density and 54.74% smaller torque ripple than its single 3-phase counterpart, verifying the analytical analysis.
