A Sea Clutter Modeling Approach Based on Multifractal Spectrum

In the field of radar target detection, modeling of sea clutter is an effective means to restrain and eliminate background clutter. Calculated according to a single fractal theory in conventional multi-fractal modeling of sea clutter, the extracted fractal parameters have defects of instability and low amount of information. In this paper, multi fractal parameters of the observed sea clutter are extracted to be Multi-fractal modeling parameters by using multi-fractal de-trended fluctuation analysis (MF-DFA) method, and a sea clutter modeling method based on multi-factual spectrum is put forward. This method uses the "single fractal subsets with the same fractal dimension" weighted combination of probability distributions to simulate the observed sea clutter. The fractal dimension of the single fractal subsets is determined by the generalized Hurst index and corresponding weight coefficients are codetermined by Multi-fractal spectrum value and the number of small areas that are obtained by dividing fractals. The simulation process is given and the results show that the simulated sea-clutter data is identical to that of the observed one regarding Multi-fractal characteristics. What's more, their trailing data as per statistic characteristics of is also very consistent. Therefore, the effectiveness and practicability of the sea clutter modeling method presented in this paper is verified.
